Media Man Affiliates Blog: Casino News 2011 flashback to Las Vegas, Nevada

Casino News 2011 flashback to Las Vegas, Nevada

Casino Casinos Nevada Las Vegas Politics World Casino Directory

Five casino companies have applied for gaming licenses to operate online poker rooms in the great state of Nevada. The state gaming board anticipates licenses to be issued as early as February.

Firms that have applied include South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa, who became the first Vegas entity to offer a free-to-play online poker site last month. South Point would like to begin offering real cash play in the approaching months. The Nevada legislation would permit companies like South Point to allow real money play for Nevada residents. Should federal legislation pass, Nevada is likely to become a hub for internet poker rooms, pooling players from several states.

Nevada could sustain a pool of online poker players from the get go with a population of close to 3 million, a sweat number of which are passionate punters. Countries with similar populations such as Norway, Finland and Denmark, all with approximately 5 million people, have long supported a significant base of online punters.

IGT (International Game Technology), 888 Holdings, Cantor Gaming and Bally Technologies have also thrown their hat in the ring and applied for gaming licenses. Caesars Entertainment has also got a b2b agreement in place with 888.

IGT have purchased Swedish-based Entraction and its network of 112 rooms, none of which currently accept US customers, but that may change over time.

Like IGT, Bally Technologies, also based in Las Vegas, desires to be both a manufacturer and service provider for the lucrative gaming business.

While Cantor Gaming already enjoys a presence in Las Vegas as a provider of mobile gaming devices and sports wagering, a license would only permit the company to offer poker online.

IGT, Caesars Entertainment and MGM are considered the strongest and most powerful land based operations in the mix, while X is thought to be the European - offshore based operation best positioned to make the most of upcoming gaming opportunities in the U.S. X are already making inroads in the U.S with its XXX brand and attracts strong news media - TV broadcast coverage across America.

Who are you betting on? One thing seems likely - the U.S government is going to make a hell of a lot of money eventually when online gambling becomes totally legal.

Towering above the banks of the Atlantic Ocean, the Trump Taj Mahal casino is an icon of the city, with an on-site shopping district and an abundance of restaurants and bars. The 157,000 square-foot casino is also hard to miss, with 3,500 slot machines and 200 table games. Unveiled in 1990 by a number of celebrities, including the late Michael Jackson, the casino is the second-largest in Atlantic City and well worth a visit.

Media Man Affiliates Blog: New York 51% tax on Sports Betting

New York 51% tax on Sports Betting

Read all about it...

New York became the largest US state to embrace online sports betting but the high tax rate makes it close to impossible to compete.

The betting companies operating in the Empire State include DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars Sportsbook, and Rush Street Interactive.

That'll make it harder for operators to profit off their customer bases in the state, Jason Ader, CEO of SpringOwl Asset Management and 26 Capital Acquisition Corp, tells MSN News.

"Everybody wants to be in New York because it's a trophy market in terms of the size of the state and its importance, but the tax rate is really prohibitive," Ader said. "It's very hard to make money in sports betting. Put 51% tax rate on it and it's maybe a bit more like a fool's gold rush than a gold rush."

As far as players go, these taxes will likely be passed down in the form of less attractive lines, bonuses and cashout fees.  In the early months, companies may seek to reduce the affect on customers.  These companies will also report all winnings to the IRS, something offshore sportsbooks and local bookies do not do.

Some websites licensed outside the state in offshore jurisdictions continue to do business in New York.  Many, like Bovada, BetOnline and BetAdrian, have pulled out of that market.

Media Man Affiliates Blog: November Best Month Ever for Nevada Sports Betting

November Best Month Ever for Nevada Sports Betting

November 2021 was the most lucrative month ever for the Silver State.  An impressive milestone considering how long Nevada has offered the activity compared to other states, which only began offering sports gambling following a US Supreme Court decision in 2018.

Nevada sportsbooks won a net $71.9 million in November, shattering the previous record win for a month by more than $11 million (November 2020).

Underdogs covered the spread in 60.4% of November games, helping to contribute to the sportsbooks bottom line. The books finished up $53.1 million on football bets for both professional and collegiate during the month.  Approximately $1.1 billion was bet during this time.

It is the second-straight month that the state has eclipsed $1 billion in wagers.

Unlike most US states, Nevada requires all mobile users to register in-person as opposed to remotely from their homes or businesses.
